Project overview
The Design Council is the national strategic body for design in the UK and a non-departmental government division. It serves as a bridge between the design industry, public sector and business to champion the importance of good design and its benefits to society, industry and the environment.
Design approach
The work required a flexible design approach appealing to diverse audiences, from internal teams and partners to policymakers and the public.
My role
I worked for over 3 years at the Design Council, as the sole in-house Senior Graphic Designer, leading the design of internal corporate communications alongside selected external programme work and project collaborations.
The role required a high degree of autonomy, collaborating across teams and with senior stakeholders.
Key projects included:
- ‘50 Designers’ induction cards — concept design and production support for a card set introducing new employees to design disciplines and leading international practitioners
- The Good Design Plan (2008–2011) — design and production of three annual strategic plans
- Southern Water: Water Design Challenge — promotional materials for an educational programme teaching 11–14-year-olds about water conservation, delivered in partnership with Southern Water
- Stakeholder map visualisation – an internal strategic diagram created to get a better overview of the organisation’s stakeholders, their competencies and areas for opportunity in the future
- International Design Scoreboard — design and production of a 92-page research report developed with the University of Cambridge, created to benchmark national design capability, inform government, education and industry decision-making, and spotlight emerging global design economies
